Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at the Zhongzan Cattle Farm about 90 km southeast of Batang County, Sichuan, between Baxiangling Village and Dingpo Village. It was named by the No. 3 Sichuan Party of Regional Geological Survey in 1972.


Lithology and Thickness

Limestone. Light-gray to gray-white massive micritic limestones, containing a large amount of ooids in the bottom limestone, and minor amounts of ooids in the middle and upper parts, also with black irregular patches or streaks. Thickness 178.5 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformable contact with the underlying Zhapu Fm

Upper contact

Conformable contact with the overlying mid-Permian strata (Ranlang Fm)

Regional extent

Mainly distributed in Zhongzan of Batang and Ricuo of Reda District, Xiangcheng County, extending southward to Zhongdian, Yunnan

Fossils

The Lower part contains Fusulinids Triticites subrhomboides, T. dictyopharus, T. cf. parvulus, Rugosofusulina sp. and minor Corals Pseudocariaphyllum sp. and Protowentzelella sp. The Middle and Upper parts yield Fusulinids Pseudoschwagerina zhongzanica, Pseudofusulina cf. paragregaria, Zellia heritschi, etc.
